What is it?
There is a curious similarity I’ve noticed sometimes, between artwork made by the working class and work that is sanctioned for use by the state that you see in totalitarian dictatorships.
It seems to be an ingrained cultural insistence that artwork must strive to be as close to photographic in its representation as possible, and easily summarized, in order to be considered valuable, legitimate, or “useful” culturally.
Rather than recognizing an artwork for what it truly is - a new contribution to reality, there exists a self-imposed type of “entartete kunst” mindset, where any thought of doing something else h
