Actually, this is more of a finished work in and of itself. Typical of my bisected diptyching... when you propose a cover to a publisher, often times they will want to see a sketch or a mock up with some variation to get an idea of what is what.
In the course of doing this I've come across a more recent (2005) version, which I think looks pretty damn sweet.
