This is another of my HP Lovecraft works.
Unfortunately the source psd was nuked in a hdd crash.
I have an older primitive version which I could repaint but this exisits only as a low res. version.
The idea here is one of the hybrid offspring of Dagon's gang, not fully aquatic and not quite human. Slowly rotting or shifting, in a state of flux between two worlds.
Incidentally, these were made before I saw the movie "Dagon", which by the way I totally loved.
Clive Barker uses color very differently, these days, I find. (I can't completely vouch for his earlier stuff but maybe it's time I go look again.)
I can see a very naturalistic palette in you, sir. You are a portrait painter here. They just happened to be a ghoul, that's all.
Nicely drawn. Low res or not.
Maybe that's me and pulp/horror. I needed to see the edges off it. I could not see me doing pulpy shit. Not..that partcular way. Barker brought me closer to it, so has Gaiman, on another plane. I wish Clive still did this kind of stuff. It would be interesting to see his take on macabre, these days. I realize he said he's moved past this all, a bit. Another person, back then. I can almost understand that reference now.
The whole face is just brilliant; I love the teeth, the eyes, the skin, the colours; it all just goes so well together. The background is also beautiful and gives a very 'haunting' feeling with the fog.
Making it seem like rotting fish is what I wanted to do.
But at the same time, a creature who has accepted its circumstance and role in life. In which case, the bizarre becomes the daily standard.
Cool. Well you certainly got the effect around the eyes and neck and the skin also looks like you could slide it along a bit which is very nicely done.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
