Digital paper is almost here.

I am not necessarily playing the part of Bill Joy and the new goo (goo du jour?) scenario, but rather am just making this work as a record of my own reflection on the topic at this particular time.

digital paper... hmm. now anything can be temporary. i have to wonder... will there be latent images or will it be totally dynamic? hmm.

RFID.... heh. i had a badge like that once. it was kinda cool cuz it was techie but it was pain if you forgot your badge. my work doesnt have those. heh... you CAN be tracked....

convenience always costs you. you are the most free when you have the least things tying you down.

im going to be watching you... there is some good stuff to think on here.

Sounds like totally dynamic, little beads or spheres (like, super small) that are black on one side white on the other and when current is applied, they rotate in sort of a binary on/off black/white state, and I think the amount of current determines intensity of the black/white thereby establishing the tonal values.
Scientific American in the last issue (july 2004?) has a good article about this. Sony, with their E-ink is also making some progress with it too. [link]

I cannot wait until we have actual cost effective consumer based devices that will support full RGB like with 16.7 million colors. That would be awesome.

hmm. ive seen some of the prototypes. i think i read that sci american article. i am definitely looking forward to this kind of developement.

i am also looking at things like the flipstart [link] and oQo [link] and [link] finally mobile computing is going to be kicking PDAs.

digital paper does have a nice pull from mobile computing ... "viewable from any angle". that is definitely cool. hmm... i am definitely going to be keeping an eye on this stuff.

i am looking forward to mounting something on my wall that can be controlled through my wireless network connection to load/unload/change art.

Very cool I will have to check those out in more detail.
Yeah wireless, I cannot believe we are still tied to large beige boxes like this.

I could attempt to make an intelligent comment on this piece, but at this point my thumb has been inserted so far up my... nose... that I can't even bother to act like I know what goes through your mind sometimes! You just have to trust me when I say that I think this is really cool :)

Cool beans. When you hit brain you might want to stop. Unless you are in the middle of a "home mummification kit".
