Description

I think sometimes with "abstract" work the viewer gets the sense that the making of the work is random and not well considered.

Modernism and its 'art for the sake of the material' ideas contributed to this of course, informing modern culture, BUT for artists working in Postmodern times... we can use aspects of the visual language developed by previous generations to inform our own present day work without necessarily being required to follow a path of pure imitation of the past. So, the following is not necessarily an "explanation" but more a guide to help you understand that there is a large amount of forethought and significance put into work that might seem essentially random.

Some thoughts about this work:

"a" Spanish word indicating "to" or "toward".
"Aralu" large subterranean cave of the nether-world, the Babylonian word for land of the dead.
Babylon, modern day Iraq, 110 km south of Baghdad.
bloodstone green jasper dotted with bright red spots of iron oxide, was treasured in ancient times and long served as the birthstone for March.

These are the things I considered when making the work.
But you are free to draw your own conclusions.
As always if you are interested in a print of this tell me and I will see that it is made available.

Well said, my own works look simple but much time and effort goes into creating them... :)
